Sandisk Stock (SNDK): What the 40% Pullback Means Before Q1 Earnings

Sandisk stock heads into its next earnings report on 29 October 2026 after a sharp pullback. The SNDK share price closed at $1,394.83 on 15 October, about 40.8% below its all-time high of $2,354.39 from 22 June. The first question now is whether the AI-driven shortage of NAND flash memory can keep supporting prices. The second is whether the fiscal Q1 2027 report can match high expectations. Source: StockAnalysis.

The backdrop is still strong on paper. Sandisk guided fiscal Q1 revenue at $10.3bn to $10.8bn after an 84.6% gross margin in fiscal Q4, according to its results release of 5 August 2026. The share price has swung widely in 2026. After a sharp rise in the first half, it fell 47% in July, as Nasdaq reported. It has lost about 19.8% so far in October.

These numbers need context. The stock fell to a low of $27.89 on 7 April 2025, during the broad market sell-off of that spring, as Stockscan data show. The later gains started from that depressed base. The same data also show deep drawdowns along the way.

The 2026 Path From Record High to July Slump

The year-to-date gain in Sandisk stock stood at about 487.6% on the 15 October close. That figure hides large swings. The stock rose 858% between 31 December 2025 and 30 June 2026. That made it the best performer in the S&P 500 over the period, according to MarketWatch data published by Morningstar. It then lost 47% in July, as reported by Nasdaq.

Why Is Sandisk Stock Falling?

Several pressures have hit the stock at the same time. Most of them are sector-wide. Few relate to Sandisk's own business, according to reporting from Benzinga on 15 October.

CXMT and the China Competition Scare

China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) announced progress on a new DRAM cell design over the weekend of 10 and 11 October. Memory stocks sold off across markets on the news. Samsung fell 7.4% in Seoul, while SK hynix lost about 10%, as roic.ai reported.

Sandisk makes NAND flash. CXMT's news concerns DRAM, which is a different memory type. Benzinga noted that the direct competitive threat to Sandisk is therefore smaller. Analysts at Rosenblatt called the sector reaction "overblown", according to Stocktwits.

Profit-Taking Before Earnings

The stock is still up several hundred per cent this year. Some investors appear to be locking in gains ahead of the 29 October report. Benzinga cited profit-taking as one of the main factors behind the weakness.

Treasury Yields and AI Spending Doubts

Rising Treasury yields have weighed on technology shares. Investors are also asking how long debt-funded AI infrastructure spending can last. Weak consumer storage demand adds a further concern, as Benzinga noted.

Factor What happened Direct link to Sandisk
CXMT DRAM news New DRAM design announced on 10 and 11 Oct Indirect, since Sandisk sells NAND
Profit-taking Large 2026 gains ahead of results Direct, through the share price
Treasury yields Higher borrowing costs for tech Indirect, through valuations

Consumer demand Weak retail storage sales Direct, via the Consumer segment

Why Has Sandisk Stock Risen So Much?

The rally came from a sudden change in the memory market. Demand for storage in AI data centres grew much faster than supply. That lifted prices and margins for NAND makers.

The AI-Driven NAND Shortage

Market research firm TrendForce expects overall NAND contract prices to rise by 15% to 20% quarter on quarter in 4Q26. It says enterprise SSD is the only memory category where it expects price growth to speed up, driven by AI inference demand from cloud providers. Its view is set out in a TrendForce press release of 30 September 2026.

TrendForce also projects enterprise SSD prices to rise by about 235% in total during 2026. In an August 2026 report it estimated that major cloud providers will increase capex by 98% in 2026. It expects DRAM and NAND to take 68% of major cloud provider capex in 2027.

Memory market indicator Forecast
NAND contract prices 4Q26 plus 15% to 20% q/q
Enterprise SSD prices, full year 2026 about plus 235%
Major cloud provider capex, 2026 plus 98%
Major cloud provider capex, 2027 plus 50%
DRAM and NAND share of cloud capex, 2027 68%

Source: TrendForce, 30 September 2026 and TrendForce, 25 August 2026. Forecasts are not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Supply is also tight. Kioxia and Sandisk have raised joint investment, with capex reportedly up about 40% year on year, according to TrendForce News. New fabs take years to build, though. This may help explain why price strength has lasted for several quarters.

Record Results in Fiscal Q4 2026

The last report showed the effect of higher prices. Fiscal Q4 revenue rose 51% from the previous quarter to $8.97bn. About two-thirds of that sequential growth came from higher pricing. The rest came from higher volumes, according to the Sandisk results release.

Metric Fiscal Q4 2026 Fiscal Q3 2026 Fiscal Q4 2025
Revenue $8,965m $5,950m $1,901m
GAAP gross margin 84.6% 78.4% 26.2%

Source: Sandisk fiscal Q4 2026 results, Business Wire, 5 August 2026. Fiscal Q4 2026 ended on 3 July 2026. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

For the full fiscal year 2026, revenue reached $20.25bn, up 175% from $7.36bn. Non-GAAP EPS for the year was $70.88. Chairman and CEO David Goeckeler said in the fiscal Q4 results release that the company had "established datacenter as a key growth pillar".

Revenue by Segment

Datacenter and Edge drove the quarter. Consumer was the weak spot.

Segment Fiscal Q4 2026 revenue Change vs previous quarter
Datacenter $2,977m plus 103%
Edge $5,432m plus 48%
Consumer $556m minus 32%
Total $8,965m plus 51%

Source: Sandisk fiscal Q4 2026 results. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

Balance Sheet and the Sandisk Stock Buyback

Sandisk ended fiscal 2026 with zero debt, down from $1.85bn a year earlier. It held $4.76bn in cash at 3 July 2026. The board approved an extra $14bn share repurchase, which brought the remaining authorisation to $15.5bn. The company spent about $4.5bn on buybacks in fiscal Q4, as the results release shows.

Index Inclusion and Fund Flows

Index entries can bring new demand from passive funds.

Index Joined Replaced
S&P 500 28 Nov 2025 Interpublic Group
Nasdaq-100 20 Apr 2026 Atlassian
S&P 100 21 Sep 2026 Colgate-Palmolive

Index membership can work both ways. Large passive holdings may support demand on the way up. They can also add selling pressure when funds rebalance or when momentum strategies cut exposure.

Strong fundamentals and a falling share price can exist side by side. Sandisk grew revenue 372% year on year in fiscal Q4, according to its results release. Even so, the stock is about 40.8% below its June high. Expectations and sector sentiment also move the price.

Sandisk Earnings Preview: Fiscal Q1 2027 on 29 October

Sandisk will publish fiscal Q1 2027 results on Thursday 29 October 2026. The conference call starts at 1:30 pm PT, which is 4:30 pm ET or 20:30 in London, as the company confirmed in its results date announcement. The fiscal quarter covers the three months to around the end of September.

Guidance vs Consensus

Measure Company guidance Analyst consensus Year-ago quarter
Revenue $10.30bn to $10.80bn $10.64bn $2.31bn
Non-GAAP EPS $44.00 to $46.00 $46.22 $1.22
Non-GAAP gross margin 83.0% to 85.0% n/a n/a
Diluted shares about 155 million n/a n/a

Source: Sandisk guidance, 5 August 2026 and Benzinga consensus, 15 October 2026. Forecasts are not a reliable indicator of future performance.

The consensus EPS figure of $46.22 sits slightly above the top end of the company's own guidance. Revenue consensus of $10.64bn is above the $10.55bn midpoint. A result that only matches guidance would therefore fall short of these consensus figures, based on the Benzinga figures.

What Traders Often Watch in the Report

  • Non-GAAP gross margin against the company forecast range of 83% to 85%.
  • Datacenter revenue growth and the share of bits going to AI customers.
  • The revenue and EPS outlook for fiscal Q2 2027.
  • Any update on long-term supply contracts with large customers.
  • Comments on consumer demand after the weak fiscal Q4.
  • The pace of share buybacks under the $15.5bn authorisation.

How Sandisk Stock Reacted to Recent Events

Strong numbers have not always lifted the share price. After the fiscal Q4 report on 5 August, the stock fell more than 8% in early after-hours trading despite a large beat, as FXStreet reported. The Investor Day a week later had the opposite effect.

Sandisk Investor Day Targets and NBM Contracts

At its Investor Day on 13 August 2026, Sandisk set out a long-term financial model for fiscal 2028 to fiscal 2030. It also described "New Business Model" agreements with eight customers. These deals include committed volumes and structured pricing. They also carry minimum financial commitments. They cover about 50% of fiscal 2027 bits and about two-thirds of fiscal 2028 bits, according to the Investor Day press release.

JPMorgan put the total value of these contracts at about $94bn at floor pricing, according to Investing.com. The contracts are new, however. They have not yet been tested in a memory downturn.

Valuation: Sandisk P/E Ratio and Market Cap

On trailing earnings the stock trades at about 18.9 times EPS. On forward estimates the multiple is about 6.5 times. The gap is large because analysts expect fiscal 2027 EPS to be far higher than fiscal 2026. A low forward multiple can be common near a cyclical peak, so traders often read it with caution. Readers new to the measure can see our guide to the price-to-earnings ratio.

Sandisk Technical Analysis

The short-term trend is down. The longer-term trend is still up. The stock trades below its 20-day and 50-day simple moving averages. The 15 October close was about 16.3% above the 200-day average of about $1,199.66, according to Benzinga data from 15 October.

Source: Benzinga, 15 October 2026 and StockAnalysis. Levels are illustrative. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

Moving Averages and Momentum

The MACD sits below its signal line, which points to weak momentum, as Benzinga noted. The 20-day average is still above the 50-day, and the 50-day is above the 200-day. That order usually describes a longer uptrend in a short-term correction. Our guides to the moving average indicator and the RSI indicator explain how these tools work.

The 15 October Reversal

On 15 October the stock opened at $1,313.66 and fell to $1,276.00. It then recovered to close at $1,394.83, near the high of the day, on volume of about 13.3 million shares, according to StockAnalysis. Chart readers sometimes treat this kind of candle as a possible short-term turn. It needs follow-through to mean much, and the 16 October pre-market quote was lower.

Illustrative Scenarios After Earnings

The scenarios below are illustrative only. They are based on public data and do not predict the outcome. Each one could fail to play out.

Scenario Possible triggers Levels that may come into focus
Positive Revenue above $10.8bn, margin at or above 85% and a strong fiscal Q2 outlook $1,590 to $1,900 (50-day SMA and September highs)
Neutral Results within guidance and a steady outlook $1,200 to $1,600 range
Negative A soft outlook, signs of peak NAND pricing or cuts to AI capex $1,050 to $1,200 and possibly below the 200-day SMA

Source: Admirals analysis based on Sandisk guidance, Benzinga levels and FXStreet. Scenarios are illustrative. Forecasts are not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Markets have often reacted to the outlook more than to the quarter just reported. In August, a strong beat was followed by a lower share price in after-hours trading. A similar pattern could repeat. A positive surprise could also lift the stock towards its moving averages.

Sandisk vs Micron and Other Memory Stocks

Sandisk is the strongest performer among large US memory and storage names this year. Its peers have also gained a lot, which shows the move is sector-wide.

Company Ticker Main product YTD change to 14 Oct 2026
Sandisk SNDK NAND flash and SSDs about plus 491% (close)
Micron MU DRAM, HBM and NAND about plus 230%
Seagate STX Hard disk drives about plus 169%
Western Digital WDC Hard disk drives about plus 116%

Source: Stocktwits, 14 October 2026 and StockAnalysis for the Sandisk close. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

Micron reported record fiscal Q4 2026 revenue of $54.23bn, according to Pulse 2.0. Micron's results are often read as a guide to memory demand. Our overview of semiconductor stocks and the guide to the semiconductor ETF market give more background on the sector.

Western Digital reports on 22 October, a week before Sandisk. As the former parent company, its results may influence sentiment in storage stocks.

Key Risks for Sandisk Shares

Memory is one of the most cyclical parts of the chip industry. Prices can fall as fast as they rise when new supply arrives or demand pauses, as a Nasdaq article from July noted.

  • Memory prices could peak if new supply comes online faster than expected.
  • Cloud providers could slow or delay their AI spending plans.
  • Chinese competition in memory could grow over time.
  • Higher interest rates could weigh on high-growth technology shares.
  • Moves in the USD/JPY rate could affect costs, since the main fabs run with Kioxia are in Japan.
  • Daily moves of 5% or more have been frequent in 2026, as the StockAnalysis daily history shows.

How Traders Approach SNDK Around Earnings

Earnings weeks often bring wide price gaps. Traders often check the date of the release and the expected move before they set a position size. Many also use stop-loss orders to manage risk. A stop-loss order may be filled at a worse price when the market gaps, so it may not limit a loss to the level set. Our economic calendar tracks macro events such as the Fed decision on 28 October.

Admirals offers CFDs on shares of US companies such as Micron and Western Digital. Clients can trade them on MetaTrader 5. Readers who want to learn the basics first can read our guide on what CFD trading is.

Some traders practise on a demo account before they trade with real money. A demo account uses virtual funds, and results may differ from live trading.

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Sandisk is part of the Nasdaq-100, so moves in large technology shares often affect it. The chart below shows a Nasdaq-100 CFD.

The Bottom Line

Sandisk combines very strong recent results with a very volatile share price. The fiscal Q1 report on 29 October will test whether the AI-driven NAND shortage can keep supporting margins. Analysts mostly expect further growth. However, the stock has already shown it can fall 47% in a single month. Traders often watch the outlook and gross margin most closely.
