Aixtron Stock: Q3 Orders Beat by €60m After a 13% Drop in the AI Sell-Off. What Comes Before 29 October?
Aixtron stock had a rough Thursday and a mixed Friday. On 15 October 2026, the shares closed at €30.98 on Xetra, down 12.71%, as a global sell-off hit AI and chip stocks (RTTNews). After the close, the company published preliminary Q3 figures. Order intake came in at about €275 million, against a median analyst estimate of €214.6 million (EQS ad-hoc, 15 October 2026).
The rebound on Friday was partial. Xetra quotes showed €32.16 at 13:39 Frankfurt time on 16 October, up 3.81% on the day, after an opening price of €34.10 (Stock Analysis). The stock is still well below its 18 June peak of €62.68. That peak was the highest level since early 2001. It was still below the dot-com record of €89.50 from 2000 (dpa-AFX via Börse Online).

Why Did Aixtron Stock Fall on 15 October?
Market reports linked the drop to a sector-wide sell-off. According to Investing.com, Aixtron had not released any company-specific news during the trading session (Investing.com).
The Global Chip Sell-Off
US consumer prices for September rose 3.7% year on year, against a consensus of 3.6%. Core inflation reached 2.6%, above the 2.5% forecast (Investing.com). The data fed fears of higher interest rates for longer.
The same report points to two more triggers from earlier in the week. Broadcom's chief executive warned about stretched AI expectations and possible funding bottlenecks. Progress at the Chinese memory maker CXMT added to worries about competition (Investing.com).
Asia took the first hit. South Korea's Kospi closed 7.57% lower on 15 October, and trading paused for 20 minutes (Leadersnet).
How the German Market Closed
| Market or stock | Move on 15 October 2026 | Close |
|---|---|---|
| Aixtron (Xetra) | down 12.71% | €30.98 |
| Infineon | down 5.2% | n/a |

The broad German indices held up. The DAX has few AI names, so the chip slump barely moved it. US 10-year yields also eased from close to 5.4% to just above 5% that day (dpa-AFX via onvista). Semiconductor names inside the MDAX fell between 5% and almost 13%.
Aixtron Q3 2026 Results: What the Ad-Hoc Showed
At 18:00 CEST on 15 October, Aixtron released an ad-hoc statement. It said that order intake and operating profitability were well above market expectations (EQS ad-hoc).
The Numbers Against Expectations
| Metric | Q3 2026 (preliminary) | Q3 2025 | Market view before the release |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aixtron order intake | about €275m | €124.0m | €214.6m median estimate |
| Revenue | about €184m | €119.6m | guided €180m, plus or minus €20m |
| Gross profit | about €87m | €46.4m | n/a |
| Aixtron gross margin | about 48% | 39% | about 44% expected |
| EBIT | about €57m | €15.4m | n/a |
| Aixtron EBIT margin | about 31% | 13% | about 25% expected |
Source: EQS ad-hoc, 15 October 2026, wallstreet-online for the margin expectations. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
Orders beat the median estimate by about €60 million, or roughly 28%. They were up about 122% on Q3 2025. Revenue rose about 54% year on year. The release names a favourable product mix as the main reason for the margin beat (EQS ad-hoc).
What Management Said
Chief executive Felix Grawert linked the orders to lasers for data transmission in AI data centres. "The high order intake clearly strengthens our business prospects for 2027," he said in the EQS-News release of 15 October (EQS-News).
The company left its full-year guidance unchanged. The full quarterly statement is due on 29 October 2026 (EQS-News).
First Analyst Reactions
Analysts quoted by wallstreet-online read the release in different ways (wallstreet-online).
- JPMorgan's Craig McDowell wrote that 2027 estimates are likely to rise.
- Jefferies' Om Bakhda said the orders point to 2027 revenue clearly above the €818 million consensus.
- Bakhda kept a Buy rating with a €44 target.
- DZ Bank's Armin Kremser stayed at Hold with a fair value of €40.
- Kremser sees little room to raise 2026 forecasts, as more than half of the year's EBIT still has to come in Q4.
The same report notes that the unchanged outlook points to a lower gross margin in Q4.
How the Market Reacted on 16 October
| Time (Frankfurt) | Venue | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 08:02 | Lang & Schwarz, pre-market | €34.20 | about 10% above the Xetra close |
| 09:00 | Xetra opening | €34.10 | opening print, also the day's high at 13:39 |
| 09:44 | Tradegate | €32.57 | below the Tradegate prior close |

Source: ad-hoc-news, wallstreet-online, Stock Analysis. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
Different venues show different prior closes, because the ad-hoc came after Xetra closed. This article measures moves against the €30.98 Xetra close where possible. At 13:39 the gain had shrunk from about 10% pre-market to 3.81%.
Aixtron Share Price History: The 2026 Swings in Context
The 2026 move needs context. The stock started the year at €17.13 after a weak 2024 and a modest 2025 (boerse.de).
The 2026 Path in Dates
| Date | Price | What happened |

At the June peak, the share price stood at about 3.7 times the 2025 close. From that peak to the 15 October close, the stock lost about 51%. At the 13:39 snapshot on 16 October, it was still about 88% above the 2025 close.
Five-Year Performance

|---|---|---|---|---|

Source: boerse.de, yearly closing prices, 2021 to 2025. Year highs and lows are also closing prices, so the 2024 high equals the 2023 year-end close. Figures are price changes before taxes and costs, which may vary. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
The table shows how cyclical the stock is. A 61% loss in 2024 followed three positive years. Anyone looking at the 2026 rally alone could miss that pattern.
What Does Aixtron Do?
Aixtron builds deposition equipment for the semiconductor industry. Its machines grow thin layers of compound semiconductor materials on wafers. Customers use them for lasers and LEDs. They also make power chips based on silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) (EQS-News). The company was founded in 1983 and is based in Herzogenrath, near Aachen.
Aixtron Optoelectronics: The Main Driver
Optoelectronics made up about 75% of equipment orders in Q2 2026 (EQS H1 2026 release). On the Q2 call, Grawert linked demand to the shift towards 800G optical links and later 1.6T (Nasdaq).
"Optoelectronics remains very dynamic and is currently the clear growth driver for AIXTRON," he said on that call (Nasdaq). He also said that about 15 laser companies account for roughly 80% of the relevant order intake.
- Lumentum ordered several MOCVD systems in May 2026 (Börse Express).
- A large order from LandMark followed in September, with its value undisclosed (Finanztrends).
- A new plant in Malaysia costs about €40 million and is planned to start production in H2 2027 (Börse Express).
- That plant is meant to lift capacity by about 20% (Nasdaq).
Weak Spots: Power Electronics and LED
In February the company expected a clear decline in SiC power electronics in 2026, citing significant overcapacity (dpa-AFX via boerse.de). It hopes that 800-volt battery systems in cars may help SiC demand in 2027. On the Q2 call management said GaN and LED markets were recovering only gradually (Nasdaq).
| End market | Share of H1 2026 equipment revenue | Current picture |
|---|---|---|
| Optoelectronics (lasers) | 54% | strong, driven by AI data centres |
| LED and Micro LED | 23% | soft |
| GaN and SiC power electronics | 22% | SiC weak, GaN in gradual recovery |
| R&D tools | 2% | small |

Aixtron Guidance 2026 and the Q4 Hurdle
The guidance has moved up once this year. The company raised it on 14 April, citing stronger optoelectronics demand (Aixtron ad-hoc, 14 April 2026).
| Date | Revenue guidance | Gross margin | EBIT margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26 February 2026 | about €520m (plus or minus €30m) | 41% to 42% | 16% to 19% |
| 14 April 2026 | about €560m (plus or minus €30m) | about 42% | 17% to 20% |
| 30 July 2026 | confirmed | about 42% (confirmed) | 17% to 20% (confirmed) |
| 15 October 2026 | unchanged | unchanged | unchanged |

The April guidance assumes an exchange rate of 1.20 US dollars per euro (Aixtron).
What Q4 Has to Deliver
| Period | Revenue | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 2026 | about €59.4m | Börse Express |
| Q2 2026 | €115.1m | EQS H1 release |
| Q3 2026 (preliminary) | about €184m | EQS ad-hoc |
| Nine months (sum) | about €358.5m | own calculation |
| Implied Aixtron Q4 revenue at the €560m midpoint | about €201.5m | own calculation |
| Implied Q4 range (€530m to €590m) | about €171.5m to €231.5m | own calculation |
Source: Börse Express, EQS H1 2026 release, EQS ad-hoc. Implied figures are simple arithmetic from the guidance. Forecasts are not a reliable indicator of future performance.
At the guidance midpoint, Q4 would need to be the strongest quarter of the year. Deutsche Bank's Michael Kuhn flagged Aixtron supply chain bottlenecks on 8 October. He kept a Hold rating and raised his target from €43 to €44 (Finanztrends). The stock fell 5.4% that day.
Balance Sheet and the Aixtron Convertible Bond
| Item (30 June 2026) | Figure |
|---|---|
| Cash and other current financial assets | €816.2m |
| Liability part of the convertible bond | €349.2m |
| Net financial assets | €467.0m |
| H1 free cash flow | €162.1m |
| Equity ratio | 61% |
| Equipment order backlog | €456.9m |
Source: EQS H1 2026 release, 30 July 2026. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
The release says customer advance payments supported the cash flow. The equity ratio fell from 88% at the end of 2025, mainly because the bond enlarged the balance sheet (EQS H1 2026 release).
Why €50.375 Matters
| Bond term | Detail |
|---|---|
| Size | €450 million |
| Coupon | zero, the bonds bear zero periodic interest |
| Maturity | 23 April 2031 |
| Initial conversion price | €50.375 |
| Reference share price | €38.75 |
| Conversion premium | 30% |
| Shares on conversion | about 7.9% of the share capital |
Source: Aixtron release via Börsengeflüster, 15 April 2026.
The conversion price sits about 57% above the 13:39 snapshot of €32.16. Conversion usually becomes attractive for holders when the share price trades above that level. Full conversion would create new shares equal to about 7.9% of the share capital, which would dilute existing shareholders.
The Q3 beat came in orders and margins. Revenue landed inside guidance, and the full-year targets stayed where they were (EQS ad-hoc). The 29 October statement is the next test of whether the order book turns into Q4 sales.
Who Owns Aixtron?

Large bank stakes often include financial instruments. They can reflect client business or hedging, so they may not reflect a long-term view.
The Aixtron dividend paid in 2026 was €0.15 per share, with the ex-dividend date on 14 May (Stock Analysis).
Aixtron Analyst Ratings and Price Targets

The Bank of America target dates from May and may be out of date. Jefferies cut its target from €73 to €44 in late July, while keeping a Buy rating (Finanztrends).
The Consensus
| Consensus measure | Figure | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Average target, 15 analysts | €49.01 (rating "Buy") | 16 October 2026 |

| Range, Börse Express panel | €42 to €54 | 8 October 2026 |

The two panels differ in size and timing. Price targets are opinions and can be cut quickly, as the move from €73 to €44 at Jefferies shows.
Is Aixtron Stock Overvalued?
| Valuation measure | Figure | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Trailing P/E | 67.91 | 16 October 2026, 13:39 |
| Forward P/E | 26.21 | 16 October 2026, 13:39 |
| Trailing revenue | €481.09m | 16 October 2026 |
| Shares outstanding | 112.79m | 16 October 2026 |
Source: Stock Analysis. Forward figures rest on analyst estimates. Forecasts are not a reliable indicator of future performance.
The gap between the two ratios shows how much profit growth the market already prices in. Börse Express lists a high estimated P/E compared with selected peers as a key point against the stock (Börse Express). If 2027 estimates rise, as JPMorgan expects, the forward ratio may fall. If orders stall, it may rise quickly.

How to Trade Aixtron Around 29 October
This section describes what market participants often do. It is general information and does not tell anyone what to do.
What Traders Often Watch
- Many traders compare the full Q3 order intake with the €275 million ad-hoc figure.
- They often look for an updated order backlog figure.
- The Q4 revenue outlook against the implied €201.5 million midpoint tends to draw attention.
- Management comments on the 2027 outlook tend to draw attention.
- Some traders watch the Fed on 28 October and the ECB on 29 October.
- Position sizes are often reduced before results, because gaps can skip past stop orders.
The 15 October ad-hoc produced a pre-market gap of about 10%. A gap can move the price past a stop level before an order fills. Many traders plan for that risk in advance.
Trading an Aixtron CFD With Admirals
Admirals lists a CFD on AIXTRON SE under the symbol #AIXA, available on MetaTrader 5. The broker offers CFDs on shares of many listed companies. A CFD lets a trader take a position on price moves in either direction without owning the shares. Our guide to CFD trading explains how they work.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.
Leverage magnifies gains and losses alike. Traders often manage risk with stop-loss orders and smaller position sizes. CFD trading involves costs such as spreads and commissions. Positions held overnight also incur financing charges.
A demo account uses virtual funds. Results there may differ from live trading. Platforms such as MetaTrader 5 let traders set alerts at the levels in the table above.
Conclusion
Aixtron enters the last two weeks of October with two stories at once. The Q3 ad-hoc showed orders well above the median estimate, mainly from AI optics. The EBIT margin reached about 31%. The share price, however, sat about 49% below its June high at the 13:39 snapshot on 16 October, after a sector-wide sell-off.
The 29 October statement comes on the same day as the ECB decision. The Fed decides one day earlier. Each event could move the stock sharply in either direction.
