Frequently Asked Questions

Fractional shares are pieces, or fractions, of whole shares of a company. This way, you can purchase just a portion of a stock, less than one full share.
Fractional shares work the same as full standard shares in most ways.
A fractional share gives you the opportunity to own a small portion, or fraction, of one whole share of a company’s stock, so you can take on the same risk and be subject to the same percentage of gains or losses as if you owned a full share.
Yes, fractional shares of dividend stocks do pay dividends on a pro-rata basis.
In other words, you will receive dividends in proportion to the fraction of the share you own.
Fractional shares can be bought and sold just like whole shares.
Investing in fractional shares allows investors increased flexibility in the option to buy less than a full share at a time.
This can be helpful when share prices are too high for an investor to afford, or when an investor wants to invest very precise amounts in a company.
Read more about Fractional Shares
Fractional investing has opened the door to the investment world for more people than ever before.
With fractional investing, you can invest in the world’s top companies without finding yourself restricted by share prices. Instead, investors can choose exactly how much capital they want to invest in their favourite company.
Fractional investing allows investors to buy fractional shares of a company, which is exactly what it sounds like. Let`s say you want to invest in Company A. Company A’s current share price is $1,000, but you only have $700 available to invest.
Traditionally, you would not have been able to invest in Company A and, instead, you would have been left with three choices:
- 1. Raise the full $1,000 and buy a single share;
- 2. Wait to see if the share price fell to within your budget; or
- 3. Hope that the company chose to undertake a stock split
However, with fractional shares, investors now have a fourth option, which allows them to gain exposure to the same company with less capital.
With fractional investing, investors now have the option to buy a piece of a share.
Going back to our previous example with Company A. Their share price is $1,000, but you only have $700 to invest. Fractional investing allows you to buy a piece of a share of Company A.
In other words, you could invest your $700 and buy 70% of one share.
Similarly, you could invest just $500, buy 50% of a share and use the remaining $200 in another investment of your choice!
Commissions do apply, and you can check what these are in the Contract Specifications section of our website.
In fact, with Admirals, you can buy a piece of a share in increments of 0.01 (1%).
The option to invest with fractional shares allows you to take control of your investment portfolio in a way which has never been possible before.
By investing with fractional shares, you can choose how much you want to invest in a company without being dictated to by the current market price.
Furthermore, when you invest with fractional shares on dividend paying stocks, you will receive the dividend payments on a pro rata basis. For example, if you own 50% of a share, you will receive 50% of the dividend payment.
With an Invest.MT5 account from Admirals, you can invest with fractional shares in some of the world’s most exciting companies, such as Apple, Tesla and Microsoft. So, what are you waiting for? Open an Invest.MT5 account to invest with fractional shares today!
A live account from Admirals also allows traders to benefit from another of our latest features: Copy Trading.
With Copy Trading, you can choose to automatically replicate the trades of some of our communities top-investors. Put simply, when they trade, you trade!
But what have fractional shares and Copy Trading got to do with one another?
Fractional shares and Copy Trading are two different features which complement each other perfectly. As an Admirals client, you can search through our community leaderboards to find the profile of an investor whose portfolio you would like to replicate.
Then, you choose the amount of capital you wish to dedicate to Copy Trading and we take care of the rest by proportionately matching your investments to the portfolio of the investor you have chosen to follow.
And this is where fractional shares come into play. Let’s say you choose to follow Portfolio X, which is worth $25,000 and you choose to invest 2% of this figure, $500. If Portfolio X contains one Apple share, using fractional shares and Copy Trading, you would automatically have 2% of an Apple share added to your portfolio, allowing you to replicate Portfolio X at a fraction of the price!
