Nike Fiscal Q3 2025 Performance

Here are some of the key highlights from the fiscal third-quarter 2025 earnings report from Nike:

  • Earnings per share: 54 cents vs 29 cents expected
  • Revenue: $11.27 billion vs $11.01 billion expected
  • Net income: $794 million compared with $1.17 billion a year earlier
  • Sales down around 9% from the prior year with profits down 32%

Nike beat analyst expectations on both earnings per share and revenue. After strong gains during the December period, it experienced a double-digit slowdown in line with other competitors and the retail sector. Even though the headline figures were positive, its share price dropped around 7% on the earnings release.

Analysts and investors were concerned by the management team's forward guidance. It stated that it expects a sales decline in the fiscal fourth quarter to be at the low end of the mid-teens range which was far worse than analysts were expecting.

CEO Elliott Hill, who left in Nike in 2020 after 32 years at the company where he started as an intern, has now returned to try and turn the company around. His focus has been to win back its wholesale partners, bring back athletes that went to new competitors and reignite innovation.

So far, the turn around hasn't yet been fruitful and there are some major headwinds yet to unravel. US retail sales over the past few months have come out worse than expected as consumer sentiment has fallen. On top of this, President Donald Trump placed a new 20% tariff on goods imported from China.

This is a major issue for Nike as around 24% of its manufacturing suppliers come from China. Some of these headwinds are just a few reasons why many more analysts are now moving to a hold rating on the stock as shown below.
