The US100 (US100) is the leading index of the US technology market. It is one of the most important stock market indices and comprises the largest US companies.

What is the US100 index?

( US100) is a stock market index  representing 100 of the largest companies in the United States. It differs from the Dow Jones 30 and Standard & Poor's indices in the following ways:

  • The US100 exchange excludes financial companies.
  • The US100 index includes non-American companies.
  • The value of the US100 index takes into account the market capitalization of the companies listed in the index.

The US100 index was established on January 31, 1985, and consists of 100 American stocks, including stock market giants such as Apple and Facebook.

Nasdaq Composite Index

The US 100 and the Nasdaq Composite are often confused. While the US 100 comprises 102 stocks, the Nasdaq Composite includes all companies listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

US 100 Index - Index Assets

The US100 index was launched on January 31, 1985 by the Nasdaq (National Association for Automated Securities Trading) market to differentiate itself from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

To this end, two indices were created: the US100 and the NASDAQ Financial 100, the latter consisting of financial companies excluded from the US100's composition list.

In January 1998, foreign (non-American) companies were admitted to the US 100 exchange.

Since 2014, the company itself has been able to issue several classes of shares, so that more than 100 shares can be issued on the Nasdaq stock exchange from a list of 100 companies.

The US100 value takes into account the market capitalization of the companies that make up the index.

This means that a change of even one dollar in the share price of a large company on the Nasdaq stock exchange will have a greater impact on the index than a change of one dollar in the share price of a smaller company.

Nasdaq Composite Index: US 100 and Nasdaq Financial

As we mentioned, the US100 index includes 100-102 stocks, not 100 stocks, because two of the companies that make it up issue two classes of stocks.

(Google) and (21st Century Fox).

It is worth noting that the companies that make up the index change regularly.

The Nasdaq Financial 100 index includes only financial companies, unlike the US 100 index which excludes them all.

The Nasdaq Composite Index includes all companies listed on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange. Therefore, stocks in the Nasdaq Composite Index may not be included in the US 100 Index.

US100 sectors

The Nasdaq stock exchange is essentially the main index for the US technology market, listing companies in the most diversified sectors of this activity.

The Nasdaq stock exchange, which includes technology stocks, covers seven major sectors.

The US100 sectors and their ratios are as follows:

  1. Technology: 52.36%.
  2. Consumer services: 24.02%.
  3. Health: 14.91%.
  4. Consumer goods: 4.62%.
  5. Industry: 2.99%.
  6. Communications: 0.77%.
  7. Materials: 0.33%.

List of companies in the US 100 index

Because the composition of the Nasdaq stock exchange is subject to change, the following US 100 list is valid as of July 2021.

Let's take a look at the list of companies that make up the US 100 index, ranked by size.

Once you connect to your trading platform in Supreme Edition, you will need to add Mini Terminal to your US100 CFD trading chart.

  1. Place Mini Terminal on the right by pressing the first yellow button.
  2. Enter the number of points at which you want to set the stop loss, as well as the fixed risk in euros that you are willing to take in the "Lot size calculation" field.
  3. You can now enter a purchase order in the market by clicking the "Buy" button or place a pending order using the blue column on the left of the mini terminal.

If you choose to submit a pending request, please note that you must follow these steps:

  • Click once on the entry level that interests you.
  • Click again at the desired level to set the stop loss.
  • Click a third time at the desired level to set the profit target.

It is certainly possible to cancel a take-profit order later, especially if you are following a strategy with multiple take-profits. To do this, use the take-profit line caption to specify "T/P" followed by "None".

Of course, the "Take Profit" option can be cancelled later, especially if you're following a multi-point take-profit strategy. To do this, use the take-profit field caption to select "T/P" and then "None".

In a rising market, the chances of success are greater if you try to speculate only in that direction. This is logical and necessary.

Traders who use scalping and day trading approaches can take advantage of this trend during the US trading session.

US100 Index Analysis

Fundamental Analysis - Coronavirus Threat to the US1OO Index

To predict the price movement of this index in 2021, and with our guidance on how to trade the US 100 index, we need to monitor the movements that took place during 2020, especially with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, which started in China and spread to the rest of the countries, causing an earthquake in the stock markets.

COVID-19 put pressure on all global stock indices, with some indices recording their largest declines in recent years. The red box represents the moment the US100 index began to decline, in mid-February 2020. The chart shows the vertical drop in price from that point, which hit the major support level at 6643 points on March 22, 2020. This decline presented an opportunity for some speculators who shorted via contracts for difference (CFDs) and profited from the drop..

With the coronavirus turning into a global pandemic and changing daily life and work patterns, and with the restrictions imposed by most global economies to limit the spread of the pandemic, many companies turned to remote work, which gave a boost to the technology sectors to take advantage of this current situation, and the US100 index was able to recover quickly and return to its upward path, surpassing the price from which it fell at the beginning of the pandemic.

Despite the good positive data and increased vaccinations, the US100 index experienced some small declines in 2021 but maintained its upward trend , as concerns about inflation in the United States and its potential future consequences put pressure on the US100 price.

Technical analysis of the US100 index

Among most global stock indices, the US100 was one of the most affected by the volatility caused by the increase in US bond yields and the rise in inflation resulting from the Federal Reserve's interest rate measures and the stimulus packages introduced by US President Joe Biden. The increase in the cost of financing indirectly affects technology companies.

Following the Federal Reserve’s recent statement regarding the second quarter meeting of 2021, which indicated the possibility of raising interest rates in the near future, the index benefited from these statements and recorded a new record high at 14211, exceeding the moving averages for closing 20, 50, and 100 sessions respectively, as shown in the daily chart below.

The Stochastic indicator shows overbought conditions from the recent peak, with the signal line dropping to the 69 level at the time of this analysis. The price is heading towards forming a head and shoulders pattern . If this pattern is completed, we may witness Fibonacci price corrections and see the price return to the support area of 13232.

In the image above, we can confirm the relationship between stock indices. As we can see, there is a strong positive correlation, with a high score of +95, indicating that when one indice moves, the others have a good chance of following the same direction.

When it comes to investing, one of the best ways to work and potentially achieve long-term success is to buy an index or stock.

Sometimes, traders refer to indices as "shares" because stocks are the underlying asset of stock market indices.

Trading indices is very exciting for one main reason:

There's no need to worry about choosing and identifying the best individual stocks to buy. When you trade the main US technology market index, you're trading the stocks within that index. Instead of choosing between Apple and Facebook , for example, you have the opportunity to trade both, as well as the other 100 stocks that make up the US 100 index.

Advantages of investing in the Nasdaq stock exchange

  1. You won't miss any trading opportunities. The US stock market opens and closes at specific times, similar to the forex market , where you can trade throughout the week, closing only on Friday night. Therefore, you can extend your trading session during the real-time US100 CFD trading schedule on the MT4 or MT5 Supreme Edition online trading platforms.
  2. You can take advantage of the opening movements of the stock market and strategies developed around opening gaps and market ranges. We advise novice traders against following these types of strategies, as they carry significant risks and can lead to substantial losses.
  3. You can enjoy a competitive price difference to get the deal on the positive side as quickly as possible when you open your trading operations.
  4. When negotiating a financial product related to the economy and current events of American companies, this allows stock market enthusiasts to intervene easily and quickly in the main index of the American technology market.

Volatility in trading on the US 100 index

For those who already have a full-time job or who wish to engage in a more peaceful and relaxing activity, Swing Trading is another useful solution.

The trader will only spend a short amount of time in front of these screens. The main idea is to find the right trading opportunities on larger timeframes such as the four-hour chart, and daily and weekly charts.

Short-term trading of the US 100 index

Those who want to speculate on the US 100 index should know that there are several ways to do so.

Remember that there are many strategies and systems for speculating on Contracts for Difference (CFDs) for stock indices.

Next, we will present a related strategy that we recommend you try first on a demo account and see if it meets your expectations.

The following strategy requires the use of the MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 Supreme Edition plugin, so make sure you download it before you begin.

The free Admiral Mini Chart from MetaTrader 5 Supreme Edition will be the basis for this approach.

The trading theory used in the US100 trading strategy is to take advantage of the following two elements:

  1. Increased volatility during US stock market hours.
  2. Tools used by trading professionals.

In fact, with this type of approach, it is possible to find very specific entry points during the session.

As a result, days of high volatility are likely to be profitable, but days of trading within limited ranges will necessarily be more detrimental to results.
