For a fixed position size, leverage changes the initial margin required to open the position, but it does not change the potential profit or loss resulting from a given price movement. Higher leverage reduces the margin required for the same market exposure and may allow a larger position to be opened relative to the funds available, increasing risk. Available leverage depends on the instrument, account type, client classification, and applicable trading conditions.
